Research has concluded that students are able to perform at their highest level in a safe and secure environment. A strong correlation exists between student appearance and the perception and/or reality of school violence.

JAIS dress code is established to teach grooming and hygiene, prevents disruption, and minimizes safety hazards. Any disruptive or distractive mode of clothing or appearance that adversely impacts the educational process is not permitted.

The following are guidelines of dress and grooming on any MISD campus:

Clothing and Grooming:

  • Shoes must be worn at all times (slippers/ Sandals are not allowed)

  • School Uniform must be worn at all times

  • Pants, cannot be worn below the waist (“sagging” garments are not acceptable)

  • Clothing must not have holes or tears .

  • No Shorts are allowed.

  • Socks : White or black only

  • No hats, caps, bandannas, hoods, hair nets, skull caps, wallet chains, or sunglasses

  • Hairstyles that are disruptive (head and/or facial) are not permitted.

A primary purpose of the listed expectations is to teach students how to dress appropriately for success in a school/work environment. The dress code expectations will be taught in conjunction with the school’s instructional discipline program at the beginning of the school year with additional refreshers throughout the year as appropriate and/or necessary.
